Frequently Asked Questions
No. This retreat is designed for people with no prior experience in any of these areas. The only requirement is a genuine willingness to engage. All ocean activities are guided by qualified instructors with full attention to safety and appropriateness for each participant's level.
It is genuinely both — and the integration between them is precisely what makes it unique. Physical experiences in the ocean and in movement create real, unscripted situations in which your patterns emerge naturally. Those experiences are then brought into therapeutic work. Neither element exists without the other.
Participants should be in reasonable physical health and comfortable with physical activity and time in the water. You do not need to be athletic. Surfing and freediving sessions are adapted to each participant's level, and modifications are always available. If you have a specific health condition, please note it on your application and we will discuss it during the discovery call.
Many participants arrive with significant prior therapeutic experience. This retreat often offers something different from what prior work has provided — not because it is better, but because it works through the body and direct experience rather than primarily through conversation. People who have developed significant insight through talk-based work often find that this retreat moves that insight from the mind into lived experience in a new way.
The retreat is intentionally small — 8 participants maximum. Group composition is carefully considered through the application process.
Accommodation details vary by retreat. Private and shared room options may be available. This will be outlined clearly in your welcome information after acceptance.
The retreat is facilitated in both English and Spanish. José Antonio is bilingual and moves between languages naturally to ensure every participant feels fully supported.
The preparation sessions are an essential part of the retreat design — not optional add-ons. Participants who cannot commit to completing all three sessions and the group integration call may be asked to join a future cohort where scheduling is possible.
This retreat is designed for people engaged in the ordinary (and sometimes difficult) work of self-development — not for those who are currently in acute psychiatric crisis or require clinical-level mental health support. If you are unsure whether this is appropriate for your situation, please mention this on your application and we can discuss it honestly during the discovery call.
The deposit is non-refundable. If you need to cancel your full participation, [refund policy details based on timeline]. We understand that life circumstances change — please reach out as early as possible and we will do our best to find a workable solution.
Several weeks after returning home, participants are invited to a post-retreat integration session included in the investment. For those who wish to continue the process, optional individual coaching, group integration sessions, and ongoing support are available separately.
